Louise has been drawing, painting and potting since childhood when her artist aunt, Louise Hawkins, encouraged her to develop her God given talent. She attended the University of North Texas, majoring in Fine Arts with a specialty in ceramics. After marrying and moving to Ontario, Canada she continued to work in clay as well as taking up drawing. During her years of raising a family in Midland, TX, she took watercolor classes, continued to draw and taught art privately to children of all ages.
Moving to the Texas Hill Country in 1999 spurred her on to pursue a life long dream of painting regularly and getting back to oil painting. In this pursuit she learned about plein air painting. She has studied with John Budicin, CS Talley, Ian Roberts, Ron Rencher and Kevin Macpherson and has come to love plein air painting saying, “Going outdoors to paint has opened my eyes to the complexity and beauty of God’s creation. Everywhere I turn there is a scene waiting to be painted.”
Louise also enjoys still life, figure studies and portraiture, especially children’s portraits.
She returned to teaching privately a few years ago so she could teach a second generation, her grandchildren, and other young students of Fredericksburg. A painting trip to Provence in the summer of 2014 brought a wealth of new experiences and material for future paintings.
She is an active member of Die Kunstler Von Fredericksburg and shows her work in the annual show. Louise can be contacted at: Lcmps178@yahoo.com
