Many of these "Newsletters" reflect Bill Varney's time as founder and previous owner of the Fredericksburg Herb Farm
Dear Farm Family & Friends,
As usual, this month is a tough month for our gardens. Lack of rain and lots of heat, but we work hard to keep watering and nurturing our gardens of herbs, flowers and vegetables.
"We did not come into this world.
We came out of it, like buds out of branches and butterflies out of cocoons. We are a natural product of this earth,
and if we turn out to be intelligent beings,
then it can only be because we are fruits
of an intelligent earth . . ."
~ Lyall Watson, Gifts of Unknown Things
Our herb for August is Horsetail - see how to use it for treating Gardener's Nails!
We are very proud that two of our chefs, Kemberlyn Howard and James Cameron graduated last Saturday, July 29th from Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Academy in Austin, TX. Be sure to come and enjoy dining with us and congratulate both Kemberlyn and James!
Among the other things happening here at the Herb Farm, long time employee Shirley Keyser has retired after 21 years as part of the Herb Farm Family - we will all miss her. My son Roy is off to college this month! Many of you have met him over the years on your visits to the Herb Farm. We have also been busy with trade shows, planning new classes and more...

August 9th I will be teaching a cooking class at the Central Market store in San Antonio, TX. On Tuesday, September 5th I will be giving a class at The Austin Herb Society luncheon meeting. Be sure to come and show your support for the Austin Herb Society. Speaking of classes, be sure to watch our web site as we are beginning year-round classes here at the Herb Farm with myself, Bird Mangels and Vessel.
For a refreshing summer cool down, try our Mojito recipe - a wonderful sparkling drink!
Wishing you cool evenings and a little moisture this month!
Blessings,
