Dear Farm Family & Friends,
Happy Fourth of July! We are excited to share the news with everyone that we are in the July Issue of Relish Magazine. Relish is a newspaper insert magazine with about 9.8 million readership! Be sure to pick up a copy with your newspaper. Read a PDF version of the article or enjoy the magazine online.
Our herb for July is Basil Ocimum basilicum, which we did in July 2005 but want to talk about it again, since Summer is such a wonderful season to grow basil and it loves the heat! We have a couple of wonderful new recipes using Basil. Try our Basil Cheese Snax or the refreshing Basil Blush Sweet Fruit Vinaigrette.
Using basil in pesto is the most common use in the kitchen, but it is great in lots of other ways including aromatherapy. It is a good essential oil to use for Bronchitis, Fatigue, Colds, Loss of Concentration, Migraines, Gout, Aches & Pains. Whew, what a great herb! One of the things that I love about Basil are all the different varieties. To name a few of the common ones, Purple Basil, Lemon Basil, Thai Basil, Lettuce Leaf Basil, Sweet Basil, Cinnamon Basil.
